HELLO! AND WELCOME, I’M DEB
Living fit is more than my what I do, it’s an extension of who I am. More than two decades ago my passion for fitness led to becoming a certified Personal Trainer. And so began my fitness career at the prestigious Toronto Fitness Institute. Before long the West Coast mountains beckoned and I made the exciting move to Vancouver BC where DEBFIT® came to be.
WORKPLACE WELLNESS, LULULEMON & WOMEN’S FITNESS PROGRAMS
Vancouver kept me busy! Enjoyably full days of training clients and also teaching corporate fitness and Yoga classes. As well, I spent a wonderful year as Lululemon Brand Ambassador. I had fun in this coveted position, not the least of which was the thrilling opportunity to design and launch the first Lululemon Run Club.
Along the gorgeous Vancouver seawall I started Diva Bootcamp, the first of many Weight Loss Challenges that I would lead. This popular program joined my interest in healthy weight management together with a love of the great outdoors. My desire to educate lead to becoming an exercise model. And we filmed a hundred or so how-to videos for FitList YouTube.
Living the fit life doesn’t end with my business life. For example, a year gig as Head Trainer & Yoga Teacher at Parrot Cay COMO Shambhala was a fun way to take a hiatus. Secluded and remarkably small, this Turks & Caicos island is also a private celebrity resort. It was an intriguing experience to say the least. Also spending time in the Malaysian highlands I studied Tao head & neck massage. As well as Thailand where I learned Thai massage basics. The same massage principles that I practice still to this day in my assisted stretch therapy.
HOT YOGA STUDIO & WEIGHT LOSS RETREAT
Yoga is my first first love. But beyond (some typical) gym Yoga we know of today. It’s that of ashrams led by divine Swamis in orange robes and celestial chanting. An enchanted forest ashram in Quebec was home to my teacher training.
Specializing further in weight loss and healthy weight management, I moved to Salt Spring Island, BC and opened Salt Spring Weight Loss Retreat. Definitely this wait-listed program attracted some very memorable guests from all over the world. And based on tips and tricks from the retreat, I wrote a short-but-sweet fitness e-book, “The Salt Spring Skinny On Weight Loss”. The people I met and sharing the joy of their success, that holds a special place in my heart.
My joy of Yoga lead to opening Salt Spring’s premier Hot Yoga Studio in 2010. And this unique space was nestled in the historic and charming Ganges Village Church House. I loved teaching Yoga under soaring cathedral ceilings by the majestic wood burning stove and lovely harbour views.
FRESH AIR FITNESS & 55+ WEIGHT LOSS PERSONAL TRAINING
Captivated by the East Coast I now live in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia. It’s abundance of green space, serene trails and ocean vistas is perfect for an outdoorsy gal like me. And when I’m not training or teaching I’m spending time with my adorable Mexican rescue dog, Taco Bella and exploring this uber cool city.
