Maintaining a healthy, fit, strong and flexible body is naturally important for all of us! But is especially important for seniors and in particular seniors that are either currently inactive and out of shape or who have never properly exercised in the past.

Halifax Senior Therapeutic Fitness with Deb Leblanc is designed for inactive seniors or those new to exercise.

Properly structured, safe and gentle strength & stretch programs for seniors is essential. Not only to considerably improve their quality of life but also, from a therapeutic standpoint, to help with numerous health concerns and ailments that affect seniors. And in particular seniors that are currently de-conditioned and have an inactive lifestyle.

Halifax Senior Therapeutic Fitness can not only boost quality of life for seniors and help to keep spirits up but also, help to promote independence.

Fitness (no matter what our age—but distinctly for seniors) not only keeps our body strong and healthy but improves our mood, makes us feel good and and overall happy and positive!

And equally important or even more so, physical activity as we age will enormously improve cognitive skills and help to manage various aging-related mental health ailments such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.

A little bit about me… I’m a certified Personal Trainer, Medical Exercise Specialist, Senior Fitness Specialist and Yoga Instructor with more than 25 years experience. Being 57 yo myself, combined with my background I truly feel that I bring not only experience and knowledge but also heart-felt care to my senior clientele.

My Grandparents were my favourite adults in my life. I literally counted the days till I got to see them, not just as a child but into my teens as an adult as well. I loved them, of course but also thoroughly enjoyed their company.

Having said this, I genuinely like working with seniors. Not only helping them become fit and healthy but also, I like hearing their stories, sharing laughter and learning more about their lives. All the while being an integral part of their health journey.

And that is why I created and developed these 6-Week Heart Fit, Bone Fit and Stretch Fit programs.

If you are interested in private sessions I also offer Personal Training in a Private Studio or In-Home, as well as Online Training.

Strength & Stretch Programs

Please Note:

  • Programs are done fully seated, in the beginning of each 6-week series.
  • Over the 6-week series I strategically introduce standing, chair-supported and weight bearing exercises, stretches and balance.
  • There are no head-down movements that could affect hypotension or trigger vertigo, in any of the programs.
  • PAR-Q & Waiver must be filled out and signed by each student or their caregiver prior to each series. And in some cases a doctor authorized approval may be required.

STRETCH FIT

Created for seniors that are new to Yoga, Stretch Fit is a chair program that is comprised of Yoga-inspired stretches and poses.

  • Reduced stress as well as heightened sense of body confidence and mental positivity
  • Additionally, studies have shown that chair yoga can greatly help to ease the symptoms associated with osteoarthritis

BONE FIT

Designed for inactive seniors, Bone Fit is a chair program that safely and gently improves functional strength to help with daily movement.

HEART FIT

Especially for seniors, Heart Fit is a gentle and safe chair aerobics program that is designed to gradually elevate the heart rate, without putting too much strain on the joints.
